Versenwald's quick and dirty Might and Magic VIII skill progression editor v1.0 (Ski8Edit.exe) Help If you're using Ski8Edit for the first time, you should have no trouble. Just make sure that Ski8Edit.exe, mm8orig.bin and your mm8.exe file are all in the same directory. Back up your mm8.exe file before you make any changes. Restore your backup copy of mm8.exe before applying any patches. (See the warning near the bottom for details.) Ski8Edit.exe creates a file called ski8edit.ini the first time it is run, assuming that it can find the original skill progression table within your mm8.exe file. Do not delete ski8edit.ini, except where specifically provided for below: If you do, and you have made any changes to the skills, Ski8Edit will cease to function, because it will not be able to find the table in mm8.exe again. To fix this, get your mm8.exe file back to normal by restoring your backup of the file. (You did back it up like the program told you to, right?) Once the program is working (able to Extract from mm8.exe), you will have a valid ski8edit.ini file. WARNING: Before installing any patch, return your skill table to its original state. (Load it from mm8orig.bin and insert it into mm8.exe. Or just restore your backup of mm8.exe.) Delete ski8edit.ini. Then install the patch. The next time you run Ski8Edit, it will determine the new offset for the skill table in the patched game. (It would not try to do this if ski8edit.ini still existed.) Finally, if you manage to break your mm8.exe file *and* you didn't have it backed up, you can reinstall the game, reapply all of the patches and delete ski8edit.ini.
