Versenwald's quick and dirty Might and Magic VII skill progression editor v1.2 (Ski_Edit.exe) Help (Note: Mok's patch renames MM7.exe to MM7-Rel.exe. If you have installed Mok's patch, read all references to MM7.exe as MM7-Rel.exe. Ski_Edit 1.2 will seek and edit the latter if it is present.) If you're using Ski_Edit for the first time, you should have no trouble. Just make sure that Ski_Edit.exe, original.bin and your mm7.exe file are all in the same directory. Back up your mm7.exe file before you make any changes. Restore your backup copy of mm7.exe before applying any patches. (See the warning near the bottom for details.) Ski_Edit.exe creates a file called ski_edit.ini the first time it is run, assuming that it can find the original skill progression table within your mm7.exe file. Do not delete ski_edit.ini (except where specifically provided for below); if you do, and you have made any changes to the skills, Ski_Edit will cease to function, because it will not be able to find the table in mm7.exe again. To fix this, get your mm7.exe file back to normal by restoring your backup of the file. (You did back it up like the program told you to, right?) Once the program is working (able to Extract from mm7.exe), you will have a valid ski_edit.ini file. WARNING: Before installing any patch, return your skill table to its original state. (Load it from original.bin and insert it into mm7.exe. Or just restore your backup of mm7.exe.) Delete ski_edit.ini. Then install the patch. The next time you run Ski_Edit, it will determine the new offset for the skill table in the patched game. (It would not try to do this if ski_edit.ini still existed.) Finally, if you manage to break your mm7.exe file *and* you didn't have it backed up, you can reinstall the game, reapply all of the patches and delete ski_edit.ini.
